Built for High River

Hail, chinooks and a river town. What a High River roof deals with.

High River gets the summer hail and the winter chinooks of the country south of Calgary. It is also a town shaped by the Highwood River, which flooded it in 2013. Here is what each means for your roof, and where a roof is simply not the answer.

Hail

Hail south of Calgary

Insurance Bureau of Canada said in September 2025 that hail had caused about $6 billion of insured damage in Alberta over the previous five years. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. That is a rating, not a promise: very large hail can dent aluminum, and the material warranty excludes hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in).

Chinooks

Thaw by day, freeze by night

In a High River winter a chinook can bring a mild, windy day between cold spells. Snow on the roof melts and the water freezes again, and the gusts pull at shingle tabs. Interlock panels lock on all four sides with the fasteners covered, and wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification.

2013 flood

The flood, and what a roof can't do

On June 20, 2013 the Highwood River flooded the town and all 13,000 residents were ordered to evacuate. A flood comes up from the ground, and no roof protects a house from it. What we do on any High River house is inspect the roof deck and the attic before we price the job; if the inspection finds damaged decking or mould, the repair is written into the quote.

Permits

Permits in High River

The Town of High River lists replacing shingles among the work that does not need a building permit. Structural work is different, and the Town's Safety Codes team reviews permit applications. We confirm with the Town what your metal roof needs before the crew starts.

Ice dams

Ice dams start in the attic

When heat escapes into the attic it melts the snow above, and the water refreezes at the eaves. The material warranty excludes ice damming, so we look at insulation and ventilation with you, and plan snow guards where snow sliding off the roof would land on steps, a deck or the driveway.

Why High River homeowners choose aluminum

A High River roof that stays put. And a company that stays accountable.

Our crews

We put it on ourselves

Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. installs every roof with its own crews from our Calgary office. The company that measures and prices your High River roof installs it and answers for it.

Profiles

Slate on most High River roofs

Most of the High River roofs in our job book are Slate, with some in the legacy Interlock Shingle profile. Today the choice is Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile or Standing Seam, in nine colours, on a roof slope of 3/12 or more.

Tear-off

What comes off first

Cedar shakes and shingles, concrete tile and natural slate are always removed. A single layer of asphalt can stay under the new roof only if our inspection finds it suitable; two layers cannot.

Condos

Townhouse complexes

A townhouse complex in High River is run by a condominium corporation under Alberta's Condominium Property Act, and its board decides on the roof. We give the board one profile and colour for every building, the documents it asks for, and both warranties in writing.

Warranties

Material and labour, in writing

Interlock Roofing, the manufacturer, gives the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty on the aluminum and its finish for as long as the original purchaser owns the home, transferable once, workmanship excluded. Our 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty covers the installation.

Price

One price before you sign

We measure, inspect the decking and the attic where we can, and give you one fixed price in writing, with anything the inspection finds already in it.

Recycled

Up to 95% recycled aluminum

And the last tear-off your house is likely to need.

Straight answers

High River roofing questions, answered.

All of our answers ↗

Who installs Interlock metal roofs in High River?

Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd., the certified Interlock® roofing contractor for Alberta, founded in 1999 and based in Calgary. Our own crews install every roof. The panels are made in Canada by Interlock Roofing at its plant in Delta, BC. We are BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, Baeumler Approved, and a 2026 GuildQuality GuildMaster Award winner.

Do I need a building permit for a new roof in High River?

Usually not for the roofing itself. The Town of High River lists replacing shingles among the work that does not need a building permit. If the deck or rafters have to be rebuilt, or the structure changes, the Town's Safety Codes team decides. We confirm with the Town before the crew starts.

How does a metal roof handle hail in High River?

As well as any roof can, which is not the same as hail-proof. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. Large hail can still dent aluminum, hail over 38 mm (1.5 in) is outside the material warranty, and storm damage goes through your home insurance. Ask your insurer how it treats an impact-rated roof.

Do you work outside the Town of High River?

Yes, as the same company, but this site is about High River itself. For the countryside around it and the rest of Southern Alberta, see calgarymetalroofing.com: same Calgary office, same crews and the same warranties.

Is there a High River office?

No. Our only office is in Calgary, at 210, 3750 46 Ave SE, and the crews travel from there. The consultation can be on Zoom or at your home.

What does a metal roof cost in High River?

Our cost page shows real contract prices from the Interlock® roofs we signed in the Calgary & Southern Alberta market in 2025 and 2026. Treat them as a rough guide only: prices vary from job to job with structural and other conditions, and an in-home roof consultation is required for an accurate price. The consultation and written quote are free.
